Teleworking: How to avoid posture-related pain?

  • « Teleworking refers to working for your employer outside the company. In exceptional circumstances, such as the coronavirus epidemic, this practice may be imposed on the employee without their agreement. » (1)
  • In confinement, many of you are working on TV, and this new practice is not without difficulty for the muscles. In a publication from the French IRBMS (Research Institute for Well-being, Medicine and Sport Health) dealing with sport and confinement, the question of teleworking and caused pain was raised. Time spent in front of your computer could cause tension related to your posture. For example, prolonged sitting could cause pain in the cervical vertebrae, a tendency to increase dorsal kyphosis, shoulder pain or even tendon pain in the wrist. (2)
  • In order to correct your posture and release tension, a few actions are recommended by Professor Catherine DZIRI, head of the physical medicine and functional rehabilitation department at the Kassab Institute of Manouba. (3)
  • It would also be beneficial to take regular breaks (five minutes every hour) to allow periods of visual rest and to avoid maintaining a seated posture for too long. (4)
  • These actions should be practiced even after confinement since they guarantee a better daily lifestyle.
