1- In immunocompromised patients :
- Varicella Zoster virus (VZV) infections.
- Herpes Simplex virus (HSV) infections.
2- In immunocompetent patients :
- VZV infections.
- Severe Zoster due to extension or progression of lesions.
- Varicella in pregnant women whose rash occurs within 8 to 10 days before delivery.
- Varicella in newborns, before any rash, when the mother had onset of varicella within 5 days before and 2 days after delivery.
- Severe varicella in children under 1 year of age.
- Complicated varicella, particularly varicella pneumonia.
- HSV infections.
- Severe first episode genital herpes.
- Treatment of acute herpetic gingivostomatitis when functional discomfort makes oral intake impossible.
- Treatment of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) infection.
- Treatment of herpes simplex encephalitis.
