Product informations
Losart is indicated for:
- Treatment of essential hypertension in adults and children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years.
- Treatment of renal disease in adult patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and proteinuria ≥ 0.5 g/day, as part of an antihypertensive treatment regimen (see sections 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, and 5.1).
- Treatment of chronic heart failure in adult patients when treatment with an angiotensinconverting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor is inappropriate due to intolerance (especially cough) or contraindication. Losartan should not be used as a substitute treatment in patients with stable heart failure who are already receiving ACE inhibitors.
Patients must have a left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 40% and must be clinically stabilized and under regular treatment for chronic heart failure.
- Furthermore, Losar is indicated for the reduction of the risk of stroke in hypertensive adult patients with left ventricular hypertrophy on electrocardiogram (see section 5.1: LIFE study, ethnic characteristics).
